About this piece

Hand-knotted antique Persian Sultanabad rug dating to circa 1900, measuring approximately 9 feet by 12 feet. The richly patterned field features an allover floral design with scrolling vines, stylized palmettes, rosettes, and botanical motifs rendered in warm brick red, deep indigo and blue, ivory, soft pink, and muted earth tones. A broad dark indigo floral border frames the composition, complemented by multiple finely patterned guard borders. The generous scale, dense ornamentation, and beautifully softened palette give the rug the decorative character associated with antique Sultanabad rugs.

Condition

Hand-knotted wool construction with visible age, wear, areas of low pile, and losses consistent with an antique textile. The photographs show the reverse and construction as well as areas of wear along the edges. These age-related characteristics contribute to its timeworn appearance and should be considered part of its antique condition
